Students are assigned to small classes with other students of similar experience levels. Instructors teach a combination of technique (scales, exercises, chords, rudiments), repertoire, rhythm, creative ideas, and musicality.
Instructors
Every instructor is a specialist in his or her respective instrument. They are very engaging and dedicated to passing their expertise on to the students. Instructors encourage students to ask numerous questions as a way to maximize their knowledge.
Equipment
Every room is fully equipped to accommodate the student. Amps, drums, PAs, and keyboards are available to all. Students bring their own guitar or bass or drumsticks, plus their hands, their voices, and their open minds.
Guitar Topics for the guitar major consist of technique, repertoire, chords, scales/modes, timbre analysis, harmonic analysis, soloing/improvisation, and rhythm playing.
Keyboard Topics consist of technique, left hand/right hand independence, repertoire, chords, solo playing/improvisation, accompaniment, harmonic analysis, timbre analysis.
Bass Topics for bass guitar consist of technique, repertoire, slapping, walking bass lines, chords/arpeggios, keeping groove, creating bass lines.
Vocals Topics consist of technique, breathing, repertoire, vocalizing (scales and exercises), melody and harmony singing, timbre control.
Drums Topics consist of technique/rudiments, keeping groove, limb independence, time signatures.
Songwriting/Composition Topics include melodic development, lyrics workshop, song structure, harmony and arrangement/production ideas.
